The Moroccan Disco Spokesman
June 16th, 2009My one-man Edinburgh Fringe show is now confirmed and will be at the Argyle Pub from August 6 - 30 at 3.40pm every day. It's free of charge! My sketch group, Harbingers, will be at The Caves every day at 12.10pm. You can also log on to www.thesun.co.uk/comedy for a daily blog of events at the festival.
A few quests...
May 10th, 2009I need to stop coming up with quests.
My latest one is among the more ridiculous. But if you don't dream a dream, then your night's sleep is hardly going to be fun.
Obviously the cycle to Morocco and the dance in the street with snakes and monkeys is somewhat ambitious.
As is attempting to set a world-record for the 'largest ever synchronised disco dance routine' at this year's Latitude Festival (literally the day we return after driving back through Europe in a van).
The Edinburgh show is starting to feel like the easy bit... because after that I am, somehow, taking it upon myself to get to the Gretna Heritage Festival in Lousiana, where my favourite ever band Kool and the Gang are performing.
I want to get on stage with them and perform my (by then, I hope) world-record breaking dance routine, which will have been done to one of their songs.
I nearly fainted when I saw Heatwave at Butlins earlier this year, and I only know one of their songs!
If I can get to louisiana and dance with Kool et al, that'll be nice. I'll keep updating.
:-)
Scary stuff... this blogging:
May 6th, 2009So scary, in fact, that I seem to go out of my way NOT to do it, which is a shame because, had I been writing more regularly, the following events would've made a bit more sense.
Here are ten things I've been up to:
1) Disco dancing, which is a given.
2) Partying, hard. Sometimes so hard that I am riddled with paranoia that there is a pigeon, in New York, that is in control of my legs. It's times like that when you know you're ready to go to bed. Cheers pigeons for ruining another knees-up!
3) Abseiling, down the side of The Sun Newspaper building, for charity... to some extent with Hugh Jackman.
4) Indulging in the most quintessentially British working class activity - spending a weekend at Butlins in Skegness.
5) Orchestrating a world-record attempt for 'largest ever synchronised disco dance routine' which is planned to take place on Saturday July 17th at Latitude Festival in the comedy tent, after the headline act (when else?)
6) Reading the diaries of: Piers Morgan, Kenneth Williams, Bill Hicks and - of course - Terry Wogan.
7) Spray painting... loafers... gold.
8) Cycling.
9) Using cycling as an excuse to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting the Soreen headquarters in Manchester to ask them for some free maltloaf and cycling T-shirts.
10) One-legged hindu squats.
Techno-lossy
February 16th, 2009So what's the best thing to do when you've just launched a website with a promise of uploading video and audio fun-time content?
Lose your laptop, video camera and dictaphone.
Top stuff.
At least I saw Nigel Harman's (the bloke from EastEnders) new play from a royal box. Although that was by accident. Although it would have to be.
Anyway the Gods of electronical goods will never stop me. I have a camera phone and a thumb that is bloody capable of pressing record, so don't panic. Do not panic.
In other news, my mate joined that LoveFilm the other day. He ordered two films - 'There Will Be Blood' and 'March of the Penguins'.
When he told me, I thought he said: "There will be blood in March of the Penguins."
I said to myself: "I hope there isn't blood in March of tne Penguins."
Long and short of the story, I had not heard the friend correctly, and it was a huge embarrassment.
Now it is off my chest, I can move on. Finally.
Morocco
February 5th, 2009So I am cycling to Morocco in June and plan to dance in the street for money when I get there.
The trek will be in aid of the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. It will be 80 miles a day for around 21 days straight.
Please don't be petrified of going to my justgiving site - or joining the Facebook group called 'Tommy Holgate Carries Disco to Morocco'.
Or both.
